OutCast
Historically defined as “one who has been rejected by society or a social group” an outcast in today’s terms becomes more of a social identifier for unsought actions, objects, and/or behaviors that were once a social norm. In the piece “OutCast” a visual of our newer generation’s unwanted desires are displayed. More than a mere disregarded fragment of litter, the unwanted food wrapper is a symbol of our newer society’s views towards our old, accepted traditions. The wrapper itself symbolizes more than unwanted litter, the writing upon the wrapper symbolizes a past norm within our society, fast food, and the consumption of meat. With our newer society’s eagerness to recycle and move towards a more health-conscious lifestyle the wrapper, as a whole, is a symbol of our newer generation’s unsought desires.
